2015 Ford Mustang Specifications: 300hp V6, 310hp EcoBoost, 435hp GT

Ladies and gentlemen, the moment has finally arrived. After the sixth-generation Ford Mustang was unveiled on last winter, the Dearborn automaker finally stopped teasing us with "at least" and released the official power and weight figures of the highly anticipated all-new pony car.

Starting with the big one, the GT model's 5-liter Coyote V8 boasts an 11:1 compression ratio and 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) of torque, a 15 hp and 10 lb-ft increase over the former generation. In fastback six-speed manual flavor, the GT tips the scale at 3,705 lbs (1,680 kgs), an 87-pound (39 kgs) hike over the 2014 model year, while the automatic weighs 3,729 lbs (1,691 kilos) or 54 pounds (24 kgs) more than its predecessor.

The mid-range EcoBoost model, which employs a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-pot, is rated 310 horsepower and 320 lb-ft (433 Nm) of torque. The turbo is a twin-scroll job, a first for the Blue Oval, while the compression ratio stands at 10.5:1. If you go for a stick shift transmission, the 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost weighs 3,532 pounds (1,602 kgs), 36 lbs (16 kgs) more than a 2014 Ford Mustang V6. Go for the automatic and the difference decreases to 3,524 pounds (1,598 kilos), 6 lbs (2.7 kilos) more than the outgoing fastback with the six-cylinder engine.

Last but not least, the entry-level 2015 Ford Mustang V6 fastback is equipped with a 3.7-liter six-pot with 300 horsepower (5 ponies less than the 2014 model year V6), 280 lb-ft (379 Nm) (identical torque to 2014 Ford Mustang V6) and a 10.5:1 compression ratio. Coupled to a six-speed manual box, the scale indicates 3,526 pounds (1,599 kgs), translating to a 30 lbs (13 kgs) increase over the outgoing model. With the automatic gearbox, the curb weight sits at 3,530 lbs (1,601 kilos), 12 pounds (5.4 kgs) more than the fifth-generation V6 model.

The 2015 Dodge Challenger has the advantage on all levels over the Blue Oval's all-new pony by a considerable margin: the entry-level V6 Challenger SXT generates 305 ponies, the mid-range R/T squeezes 375 horses out of a 5.7-liter HEMI V8, while the R/T Scat Pack churns out 485 horses from its 6.4-liter HEMI V8. If you're a Chevy guy, the 2014 model year Camaro comes either with a 323 horsepower V6 or a 6.2-liter V8 with 426 horses or 400 if you opt for active fuel management.

However, buying a brawny pony car isn't as objective as just going for the most powerful model in the segment. While some customers are won over the the Dodge Challenger's power domination, others will most likely go for the 2015 Ford Mustang because of purely subjective things such as the looks. As for the Chevrolet Camaro, this one is the oldest of the lot and it's due an all-new generation next year.
