2015 Ford Mustang Production Starts at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant

To be exported globally for the first time in its 50-year history, the sixth-generation of Ford's halo sports car is now in production. The Blue Oval's Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan will take care of production duties, the same factory where the automaker also builds the Fusion mid-size sedan.

All new Mustangs, including the right-hand drive variant which will be shipped to 25 markets all over the world, will be built here. 50 years is a heck of a long time for the Blue Oval to finally offer a RHD Stang, but hey, at least they have learned their lesson… after 9.2 million Mustangs have been sold over the nameplate's half-century existence.

“Mustang is and will continue to be an automotive icon,” declared Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of the Americas. “Expanding its availability globally affords our customers around the world the opportunity to have a true firsthand Mustang experience – one unlike any other.” He's kind of right, you know. The young ones among us like it as well, the Ford Mustang being the most liked automotive nameplate on Facebook.

Before the Shelby GT350 hits showrooms next year, you're left with three variants to choose from. Available as a fastback coupe or a wickedly cool convertible, the least expensive of the lot is the V6 fastback, holding a $23,600 MSRP and boasting with 300 ponies. The mid-range model is the EcoBoost, going for $25,170 and packing 310 hp thanks to its pumped up 2.3-liter turbocharged little four-pot.

The full nelson comes in the form of the GT. For the fastback, you'll have to pay at least $32,100 of your hard earned cash. But it's worth it if you consider that you get a 5-liter V8, a trick electronic line-lock system, 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) of torque and a proper stick shift manual with six gears.
