Ford has finally taken the wraps off the sixth-generation Mustang, putting an end to several months of speculation and debates based on renderings and rumors.
No longer a surprise - as several photos of the pony car surfaced the Internet earlier this week - the design is more evolutionary than revolutionary, keeping some of the classic cues found on the current-generation Mustang, although Ford initially states it will drop any link to the original model.

However, the 2015 Mustang received fresh and modern styling elements, such as the trapezoidal front grille already available across the Blue Oval’s entire lineup, slender headlamps, three-dimensional tri-bar taillights with sequential turn signals and a lower, wider stance. The vehicle also features classic fastback roof design, with steeply sloped windshield and rear glass.

Interior updates are numerous and although the layout is still somewhat familiar, Ford promises to deliver a cockpit with loads of high quality materials and new tech, including Intelligent Access, SYNC, MyFord Touch, Track Apps, MyColor gauges, Blind Spot and a Shaker Pro audio system.

The 2015 Mustang is also expected to deliver improved handling thanks to its new integral-link independent rear suspension with aluminum rear knuckles, new stability control system and standard launch control system.

Moving over to engines, the new pony will go on sale with a choice of three powerplants, just like it was rumored several months back. The entry-level model will be motivated by a 3.7-liter V6 with “at least 300 HP and 270 lb-ft of torque”, while the more “European” version will squeeze “more than 305 HP and 300 lb-ft” out of a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-potter. Lastly, the familiar 5.0-liter V8 will provide “more than 420 HP and 390 lb-ft”.

The 2015 Ford Mustang will become available in late 2014. The vehicle will be unveiled in six different cities later today and will be showcased at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show in January. More details are available in the official press release below.
