2015 Ford Mustang Getting Independent Rear Suspension

The spy photographers of CarandDrive have caught up to the test mule of the next generation, 2015 Ford Mustang. There’s nothing to learn yet about the shape of the body, but we can tell you what’s been taken out of the car.

Apparently, a quick peak under the rear ‘skirt’ of the prototype revealed the big leaf spring is gone and has been replaced with independent rear suspension. Ford has hinted that the next Mustang will be a global car, and we’re glad to hear that it’s actually got this feature, which is essential for the car to be taken seriously.

However, we can’t say with total certainly that the next generation Mustang will have really have independent rear suspension, since they tested such a setup on the current car and abandoned it in the end.

Rumor has it the powertrain will also change slightly to better suite global tastes, with the 2.0-liter Focus ST Ecoboost rumored as a candidate, together with a small V6 turbo. However, the big V8 will likely be kept on.
