As if there isn’t already enough history and tradition with the 50-year-old Ford Mustang, Ford is always looking for ways to make more. Dating back to 2008, one of Ford's latest traditions for its pony car is creating a special aviation-themed model to show off at the annual Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI.
According to Mustangs Daily, Ford will continue this tradition for 2014 with a one-of-a-kind 2015 Ford Mustang inspired by the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II. Like the stealth fighter jet, the Mustang will have a titanium-colored paint with elements that are both glossy and matte finish, and like the tailfins of the F-35, the one-off car will have the signature blue and yellow lightning bolts.

While there is no press release yet, other details of the car reportedly include yellow-accented mirror caps, carbon fiber front splitter and rear diffuser and decals with nine countries (Australia, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Turkey, UK, USA, Canada and Denmark) that have ordered the jet for their military. There will be equally identifiable upgrades inside as well as Recaro bucket seats.

This special Mustang will debut at the EAA AirVenture, which runs from July 8 through August 3, and it will then be auctioned off at the Gathering of Eagles auction, which raises funds to help inspire the next generation of aviation enthusiasts. Previous themes for these aviation Mustangs include the Blue Angels, the SR-71 Blackbird, the Red Tails and the F-22 Raptor. Last year’s U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Mustang sold for $398,000, and to date, Ford’s special Mustangs have helped raise more than $2 million.
