FoMoCo announced the first right-hand drive cars begin to roll off the production line at Flatrock Assembly Plant in Michigan, North America, with a sure-shot destination: the UK, where almost 2,000 Ford Mustang orders have been taken since January.
The Mustang might be 50 years old, but it never came out the production line with an RHD config. But since Ford decided to go global with the 2015 'Stang, the pony car can be ordered with right-hand drive by those living in the UK.
Ford also mentions that so far, 80 percent of UK customers have opted for the fastback body style over the convertible and 70 percent have specified the 416 horsepower 5.0-litre V8 engine over the more fuel-efficient 317 horsepower 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine offered exclusively in Europe. So, it looks like the V8 still has an enormous appeal.
Furthermore, Mustang’s six-speed manual transmission is the slightly more popular choice (at 55 percent) over the six-speed automatic, which comes with sporty SelectShift paddle control.
As we would expect, UK customers - just like the rest of Europe - have an affinity for a well-equipped interior. So there's no surprise over half of UK Mustangs have been specified with the Custom Pack.
By selecting this bundle for their new 'Stang, clients opt for satellite navigation, a Shaker Pro 12-speaker audio system, heated and cooled front seats, a rearview camera, Luster Nickel silver alloy wheels and extra chrome detailing on fastback models.
Exterior colour-wise, Race Red is the most popular choice, with 23 percent of customers ticking that box. Magnetic Silver and Shadow Black are joint second choice with 16.1 per cent each and Deep Impact Blue (10.7 percent) and Triple Yellow (8.6 percent) complete the top five.
