The fact that Toyota makes the #1 car in America might anger some tin-foil hat wearing people who think the US president is in cahoots with Japan. But globalization does come with one really nice perk, and it's called the Mustang.
Up until now, a Russian oil oligarch or a muscle car lover from Australia could only own a Mustang if he imported it himself. In addition to that, the Flat Rock Plant in Michigan doesn't make a RHD version.
But under the One Ford program, the next generation Mustang will be sold across the world. During a special Go Further event in Sydeny, the Blue Oval officially announced that the Mustang is coming from 2015 onwards.
The pony car will be officially unveiled next year at the 2014 New York motor show in April. It will then have to undergo testing and calibration for the Australian market.
“Mustang is coming to Australia and New Zealand,” said Jim Farley, Ford’s executive vice president of global marketing, sales and service. “We’ll have more to say on that in the near future.The car has a unique connection with customers. It speaks to who we are – allowing you to enjoy the freedom of the journey like never before. One Ford is opening the door for Australians and consumers around the world to our best-ever portfolio of vehicles and giving them new reasons to look again at Ford. The Ford Mustang is one of these vehicles.”
