2015 Ford Mondeo Hybrid Entered Production in Spain, Pricing Announced

Virtually identical to the US-bound Fusion Hybrid, the Euro-spec 2015 Ford Mondeo Hybrid just started assembly at the Blue Oval’s manufacturing plant in Valencia, Spain. Compared to the five-door liftback Mondeo, the Hybrid model is a true four-door saloon.

With UK pricing starting at £24,995 (€28,800 in the rest of Europe), the gasoline-electric mid-size sedan is similarly priced to the 2015 Ford Mondeo 1.5-EcoBoost Titanium Powershift in Sportbreak guise. What does the Hybrid add to the recipe over normal versions of the all-new MkV Ford Mondeo?

First of all, a 2-liter petrol-fed mill churning out a modest 140 horsepower and 173 Nm (127 lb-ft). Coupled to a 46-pony electric motor that sources its energy from a 1.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the powertrain boasts with 186 horsepower in total, which is not shabby at all for a family-oriented machine.

It may be one of the largest vehicles in the D-segment, but the 2015 Ford Mondeo Hybrid promises to return 4.2 liters / 100 km (56 US mpg / 67.3 UK mpg) on the combined cycle, reaching a theoretical 2.8 l / 100 km (84 US mpg / 100.9 UK mpg) when driving in the concrete jungle. Furthermore, 95 percent of the energy normally lost through braking can be recovered and stored in the battery via the electric drive.

The first hybrid electric car built and sold by Ford in Europe is slated to arrive at a dealer near you at the dawn of 2015. If you want one, keep it sensible with how many boxes you tick from the options list. See those part leather seats in the gallery below? Those go for €1,400, while the full leather are €2,100.
