The all-new Ford Mondeo is finally making its way onto the European market at almost the same time as the Passat. It's been almost three years since this mid-size sedan was previewed in concept form and we're betting more than a few customers will be interested in a Mondeo, especially since prices start at a very reasonable £20,795.
At that price, the 2015 Mondeo is cheaper than the new Passat, which starts at almost €1,500 more, but more expensive than the Mazda6, which starts at £19,595. Figuring out which Mondeo to buy should requite careful reading of the official brochure, which you can find attached below this story.

The engine range is about as huge and complex as any German car at the moment. Starting with the petrols, you can get both the 5-door liftback sedan and the estate with either a 1.5-liter EcoBoost pushing 160 PS or a 2.0 EcoBoost making 240 PS. The 1.5 is available with a six-speed automatic, which is standard for the 2.0, a car that's capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 149 mph, the highest in the whole range.

Diesel options include a base 1.6-liter TDCi making 115 PS that produces 94 grams per kilometers. Two 2.0 Duratorq models making 150 or 180 PS will be joined soon by the 210 PS twin-turbo version next year. Automatic diesels get Ford's PowerShift gearbox, which is a twin-clutch, instead of a normal automatic. Borrowing tech from America, the Mondeo 4-door Saloon HYBRID Electric Vehicle delivers 186 PS from a 2-liter Atkinson-cylinder engine.

What should you buy? How about a Mondeo Zetec 2.0 TDCi 150PS Eco that's cheap to tax (107g/km) and costs only £22,545. A Titanium model with the same engine costs £23,495 and includes navigation, traffic sign recognition and lane keeping tech.

The highlight of the options list has to be the Ford Dynamic LED adaptive headlight system, a first for Ford Europe. It costs €1,050 and is also available as part of the Titanium X Pack, which is £2,000 and also includes better leather seats. In typical Ford style, only blue is standard, but at €545, most of the other colors are reasonably priced.

A set of parking sensors will set you back £450 and a park assist function that deals with both perpendicular and parallel parking is another £450.

“The all-new Mondeo is a significant new chapter for one of Europe’s best-known vehicles with a history dating back more than 20 years,” said Joe Bakaj, vice president, Product Development, Ford of Europe. “Mondeo will make high specification and premium features accessible to even more drivers – including our industry-first Inflatable Rear Seatbelt and Ford’s first LED headlights in Europe.”
