Rumored to be introduced the second quarter of 2014 for the 2015 model year, the next-generation, all-aluminum Ford F-150 will arrive approximately two months later due to aluminum issues.
According to The Truth About Cars, quoting “supplier sources”, the aluminum supplied by Alcoa and other tier 2 suppliers “did not meet internal forming requirements for the tooling tryout phase of pre-production”. This means that the program will be delayed between six to ten weeks.
The delay will depend on how fast Alcoa and other aluminum suppliers will be able to deliver the proper material, but TTAC says that the current hold up has already blown Ford’s Memorial Day launch target.
Previewed by the Ford Atlas concept at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, the next-generation F-150 is expected to be about 700 pounds lighter and drop the current fully boxed frame design.
