2015 Ford C-Max Tested: The Focused MPV

More than a decade after the introduction of the C-Max, Ford is here to give us the most convincing incarnation of the family activity compact yet. The C-Max has always tried to convince customers to skip the traditional hatchbacks in its favor, and we recently sampled the 2015 facelift to see what its exact arguments are.

No matter how practical you are, the esthetics will play an important role, so the Blue Oval has played its visual refresh cards well. From the Aston grille, to the swooping roofline and the sharp taillights, the C-Max has plenty of tricks up its MPV sleeve.

Those following the model remember how the first generation was just as sharp at its time, while the second one sort of lost that vibe. Well, now it’s back.

The cabin

Climbing aboard, the expected Focus infusion is here. Nonetheless, the C-Max mixes this with plenty of stowage spaces in order to keep every occupant happy. If we had to choose one element that would be replaced, that’s the Sync2 infotainment system. What would we swap it with? The Sync3 that’s recently been presented.

The driving experience

Nevertheless, the most surprising part of the 2015 C-Max is its dual character. This car feels just as good within urban borders as it does out on the open road.

While we’ve gotten used to a slightly sporty driving experience in the C-Max, the refresh seriously upgrades the comfort. This is mainly owned to the better soundproofing, an area where the C-Max even managed to outperform the S-Max.

Interestingly enough, while the C-Max still pays attention to its driver, the sportier car between the two is the S-Max.

As for the Grand C-Max, which offers a 5+2 seating arrangement, you can’t escape the feeling this is too much of a compromise. It all starts with the appearance, and we’re mainly referring to the rear end here, as the taillights simply look outdated.

When it comes to the driving experience, we’ll give you the full details in our 2015 Ford C-Max and Grand C-Max review. Roadtrip mindset engaged.
