Teased for more than half a year, Erik Buell’s new motorcycle has finally broken covers: the 1190SX naked version of the recently-introduced RX machine seems to breathe some fresher air into the current, growing line-up.
Following a simple, traditional and very effective recipe, EBR revised its 1190RX superbike, ditching the fairings and using a different front cowl, while retaining most of the attire of the base model. Just like BMW did with the S1000R, deriving it form the high-performance RR version, but with a slightly detuned, more streetable version of the engine, we might expect that the EBR 1190SX is a “dumbed” RX.

However, until more tech specs surface, we’re guesstimating that the 1190SX is good for around 160 horsepower instead of the 185hp of the RX, possibly with a tad less torque than the almost 138Nm (102 lf-ft) the superbike produced. At the same time, the peak torque is expected to be reached a tad lower than the 8,200 rpm mark of the RX.

The front brake air intakes of the 1190RX have been dropped, but the perimeter brakes have been retained, just like the cast aluminium trellis rear subframe and the low, upswept silencer. The two large radiator fans are kind of too intrusive, and some riders may not like them that much, even though they are well integrated in the whole build. As for the different wheel designs, it's definitely a matter of love or hate, and Erik Buell is well-known to zig when others zag.

RX’ clip-ons have been replaced with a traditional handlebar, helping the EBR 1190SX riders attain a more comfortable, upright position, even though judging by the overall attire of the bike, this is not going to be exactly the best choice for longer hauls. Stay tuned for more news on the 2015 Erik Buell Racing 1190SX naked machine.
