2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Owner Installs Exhaust Cutouts for a Meaner Soundtrack

It’s not like the standard exhaust doesn’t act like a portal for teleporting demonic kittens on our planet but the man wanted extra aural pleasures. Heck, people have been installing these on muscle cars for years, despite the more or less legal nature of the mods.

We are in 2015 though, so we’re talking about things that happen at the touch of a button. As you’ll be able to notice in the first clip below, the cutouts are placed right under the driver’s footwell and this is the key here.

Sure, the standard Hellcat exhaust gets sound-controlling valves, but even with these open, you still get a certain amount of muffling. However, in the case of these cutouts, the flames exiting the 6.2-liter V8 are the only things being toned down.

On many occasions, such a modification can result in unwanted exhaust system backpressure issues, so installing them does require a certain calibration on the dyno. Well, this owner doesn’t appear to have turned to this.

As the man explains on the Hellcat.org forum, this was a DIY job that set him back around $450. As for how this affects the ground clearance, the audiophile explains the cutouts are about 8 inches from the road, being higher than the front apron.

There’s also a second clip below, which shows us how the 6.2-liter expresses its feelings and emotions when revved with the valves open. However, we’ll have to wait for a proper fly-by clip in order to get the best idea on how much this operation has done for the hellcat’s voice.
