2015 Dodge Charger SRT 392 Order Books Open, It Starts at $47,385

Today’s been a good day in the world of the 2015 Dodge Charger - first we found out how big of a gas-guzzler the SRT Hellcat is and now we were told that dealers opened the order books for the SRT 392. It may not be as powerful as the Hellcat, but the Charger SRT 392 is a very attractive all-rounder.

Compared to the daddy of all four-door sedans (with the exception of the all-electric, twin motor and all-wheel drive Tesla Model S P85D), the 2015 Dodge Charger SRT 392 is 222 horsepower and 175 lb-ft (237 Nm) down on grunt. Still, the 6.4-liter naturally aspirated HEMI V8 is no slouch by any standards.

With its 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft (644 Nm) of torque delivered to the rear wheels via a TorqueFlite 8HP70 eight-speed automatic, the Charger SRT 392 is able to blitz to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.3 seconds in real world conditions. With an EPA-rated 15 mpg city (15.6 l/100 km) and 25 mpg highway (9.4 l/100 km), it's more frugal than the SRT Hellcat.

It’s no wonder though - the big supercharger bolted to the 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat V8 drinks a lot. Despite the difference in oomph, the SRT 392 shares many go-faster stylistic elements with its more powerful brother, including most of its body panels, vented bonnet, the Slingshot rims, 15.4-inch front and 13.8-inch rear brake calipers from Brembo and the Pirelli P Zero all-season performance rubber.

In addition to the aforementioned, the $47,385 SRT 392 comes with Performance Pages and a launch control feature, a heated and leather-wrapped flat-bottom SRT steering wheel and Nappa leather and Alcantara upholstery for the heated and ventilated front seats. The available Harman-Kardon premium audio system with 19 Green Edge speakers fed by a 900-watt amplifier is an option worth considering.
