Forget, if you can, the mammoth horsepower and blistering top speed of the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, Dodge would like to take a second to touch on fuel economy. Yes, even though Dodge boasts that the Challenger Hellcat can empty its 18.5-gallon fuel tank in about 13 minutes at full power, this model can still be a practical car in everyday driving when driven with restraint.
Dodge just announced that its most-powerful engine ever can also help return EPA-rated highway fuel economy estimates of 22 mpg with the eight-speed automatic and 21 mpg with the six-speed manual. For comparison, those are drops of 3 mpg for the auto and 2 mpg for the manual compared to the non-Hellcat Challenger SRT equipped with the 6.4-liter Hemi V-8.

The 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat Hemi V-8 is rated at 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque compared to the 485 hp and 475 lb-ft delivered by the slightly larger 392 Hemi. Dodge says that right out of the box, the Challenger SRT Hellcat will be able to run the quarter mile in just 11.2 seconds, and throwing on some drag radials will drop that number into the high 10-second range.

The new 2015 Dodge Challenger is the perfect street / strip muscle car. As the fastest muscle car ever, the Challenger Hellcat can run 10-second ETs at the track, and then get 22 miles per gallon on the drive home. With a starting price of $59,995, there’s nothing else that even comes close,” said Tim Kuniskis, the president and CEO of the Dodge and SRT brands.

While the Challenger is normally positioned against the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang, Dodge still has a fun time pointing out that the power output of the Hellcat puts it on par with the Lamborghini Aventador, which produces a similar 700 but returns just 18 mpg on the highway.
