2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Officially Rated at 707 hp, 650 lb-ft

Back in May when Dodge first introduced the 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat, there were some bold promises made. These included an engine output of “600-plus horsepower” making its horsepower rating “the highest of any V-8 engine in Chrysler Group’s celebrated history.” Well, the final numbers are out, and Dodge kept its word.

With a clear mission of out-muscling the Chevrolet Z/28 and whatever SVT has in store for the 2015 Ford Mustang, the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V-8 that is officially rated at an astounding 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Both of the available transmissions (the six-speed manual and the eight-speed automatic) have been upgraded to accommodate the additional power. For comparison, the 2014 SRT Viper produces 640 hp and 600 lb-ft from its 8.4-liter V-10 and the standard 2015 Challenger SRT with the naturally aspirated 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 is rated at 485 hp and 475 lb-ft.

Dodge’s new promise is that the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat will be “the most powerful muscle car ever,” and we’re not going to argue with that. In fact, that are only few street-legal cars in existence producing that kind of power, and all of them run deep into the six-figure price range.

Official pricing hasn’t been announced, but we’d bet the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat will be priced somewhere in the vicinity of the $75,000 Camaro Z/28. All versions of the 2015 Dodge Challenger ranging from the 300-hp base model to the 707-hp SRT Hellcat will begin rolling off the production line this fall.

An added bonus for the Challenger SRT Hellcat will be a new feature that provides two key fobs (one red and one black), which helps keep all that power in check when not needed. The red key fob lets all 707 horses run freely, while the black key limits the engine’s output to just 500 hp. This is similar to the Track Key setup that Ford used on the Mustang Boss 302.
