2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Customers Prefer the Manual Over the 8-Speed Automatic

The new king of American muscle cars is a big hit with stick shift enthusiasts. According to Dodge, buyers choose the six-speed manual gearbox over the eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic tranny by a ratio of 55 / 45, which is saying something about the type of hardcore petrolheads Hellcat customers are.

Compared to the $26,995 suggested retail price commanded by the American manufacturer for the base 2015 Challenger SXT, the range-topping Hellcat is an expensive cookie with its base price of $59,995.

Nevertheless, who can say that's too much money for a full-on muscle car that delivers a whopping 707 hp and no less than 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) of tire shredding torque? If you want the previously mentioned auto, add $1,995 to the $59,995 retail price. HD radio and satellite navigation ($695) and a power sunroof ($1,195) are the only noteworthy bits and bobs we would tick from the optional extras list.

Let's not forget that the factory Pirelli P Zero rubber is good for an 11.2-second quarter mile run, which is 3 tenths of a second faster than the 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and its 662 pony blown V8.

Heck, it even trumps the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S 4Matic sedan in a straight line, but the Merc is $40,000 more costly than the SRT skunkworks-developed American brute. All in all, the sixth most powerful production car in the world offers the best bang for the buck by a long shot.
