Unlike Opel or Volkswagen, who are more than willing to talk about their future products, Hyundai Europe have remained tight-lipped when asked about the multitude of upcoming debuts.
One of them in particular has piqued our attention, the all-new i20, which could revolutionize the second most popular segment in Europe – superminis. We've been following its development for quite some time now and firmly believed its debut will take place at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. However, Hyundai has indirectly confirmed this, by letting the people behind the Car of the Year Awards know of the i20's arrival.

COTY organizers have recently released a preliminary list of 32 candidates for the 2015 title, which will be announced during the Geneva Motor Show next year. To be eligible, "candidates should be new vehicles on sale now or before year’s end in five or more European markets, and each should have the prospect of at least 5,000 foreseeable annual sales," the organization states, which basically confirms the all-new Hyundai.

The current generation of i20 was launched back in 2007 and received its mid-life facelift in 2012. Its replacement should ride on a new platform shared with the Kia Rio and could be offered with an all-new 3-cylinder turbo engine. The all-new i30, launched almost 3 year ago, had a major impact on the European compact segment, which is why we're eager to see its smaller brither.

While we're certain the 2014 Hyundai i20 will be a much better car, the chances of it winning the 2015 Car of the Year award look kind of slim, with rivals including the Audi TT, BMW i8 and Volkswagen Passat.
