2015 Corvette Z06 Races Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale: Wheelspin Matters

Using a Lamborghini to measure the performance of the freshest go-fast pieces of American metal seems to be the latest fashion in terms of highway racing. We’ve already seen a Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale battle it out with the Tesla Model S P85D and now the same raging bull is back to fight the (you guessed it) 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

As usual, the two head to the highway, where a rolling start race takes place, with the supercars starting in first gear. Before we move on to the fight, we’ll give you a brief reminder for the specs.

The Super Trofeo Stradale, a road-going version of the Gallardo Super Trofeo racecar, tips the scales at 3,346 lbs (1,518 kg), while its naturally-aspirated V10 places 570 hp and 398 lb-ft (540 Nm) at the mercy of the driver’s right foot. As for the 3,582 lbs (1,625 kg), the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 up front feeds the rear wheels with 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque (881 Nm).

The footage below shows two races between the Z06 and the STS, with the results being entirely different. One might say that, since this were rolling start races, the Gallardo’s all-wheel drive advantage is lost, but that’s not quite true.

You see, the Z06 left the Gallardo behind in the first race, which was the correct result. Nevertheless, the second run saw the Lambo get a bit of a jump, while the ‘Vette driver spun the rear wheels, so the Gallardo took that round.

In case this highway racing raises too many questions for you, we’ll remind you of the drag strip meet we talked about yesterday. This saw the 2015 Corvette Z06, C6 Corvette ZR1, 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and the Dodge Viper SRT race in controlled conditions.
