2015 Corvette Z06 and 2014 Viper TA that Raced on the Highway Now Battle on the Dyno

Remember the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and the 2014 Viper TA that battled it out on the highway at the beginning of the month? The Viper may have walked the ‘Vette, but now the duo is back in the spotlights, as they’ve taken their fight to the dyno.

The pair of American supercars battled it out on a load-based Mustang Dyno. We’ll remind you the Viper and the Corvette are both in bone stock condition, with the first now having 2,300 miles on its odometer, while the latter has racked up 1,200 miles. We’ll remind you both cars come in manual trim.

The clip below allows us to see the Z06 and the Viper working up a sweat on the dyno and while you’ll get all the numbers you could ever want, this is also a good occasion to witness an exhaust sound battle.

As you’ll be able to see, the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 in the Corvette tops the naturally-aspirated 8.4-liter V10 on the Viper all across the chart. The torque delivered by the GM machine’s LT1 V8 was particularly impressive and while the low rpm values do not influence racing, this is what will determine many drivers to report the supercar feels fast and responsive - perhaps a weapon in the psychological battle with the Z6 ZR1 Corvette.

Just as important, none of the cars were affected by heat soak issues. Do keep in mind that certain Z06 owner did report this earlier this month, but it all turned out to be a conservative ECU setup, which GM explained for autoevolution.

In case you’re still worried about the meticulous of the measurements, you should know a pair of backup cars were also tested, including a 2013 Viper GTS and a 2015 Corvette Z06 with the Z07 package, with the overall results being consistent. For the fully-documented story, you can turn to the Viper owner’s blog.

As for the reason for which the Viper TA beat the Corvette Z06, this should lie in the 200 lbs (90 kg) weight advantage for the Dodge. Curiously enough, the aerodynamic drag battle is won by the C7 - the car seen here has the Level 1 (out of 3) aero pack, which generates less downforce and therefore less drag than the aerodynamic setup on the Viper TA - the Time Attack actually generates more drag than the standard Viper.

By the way, before you jump to any conclusion in the real-world race between these two stars, we’ll remind you another Z06, also a manual, just smoked the same 2014 Viper TA.
