2015 Chrysler 300 Shows Its Botoxed Face at LA Auto Show

The 2005 Chrysler 300 was a revolutionary model for the company back then, but the second-generation was nothing more than an evolutionary thing. Even with this 2015 model year facelift, the 300 is still a breed that needs to change its very nature to have an advantage over the 2015 Dodge Charger.

Differences between the outgoing 300 and the one presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show are not the type that’ll make you go wow, but they’re welcome nevertheless. The Chrysler brand’s flagship comes with more than just a pretty face and extra goodies on the inside. Let’s start with what’s under the skin.

The 300 was always a bit of a barge with four wheels except for the go-faster-oriented model, but engineers equipped the 2015 with stuff like a revised electric power steering and aluminum axles for better handling. Customers also get a suite of safety features such as lane departure warning, forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control.

The exterior redesign is subtle in nature, but all these small changes turn around 180 degrees the way we perceive the full-size luxury sedan. A larger front radiator grille that can be had in chromed or blacked-out wire mesh dominates the front, whereas the lower quarters are so Chrysler 200-like.

The headlights aren’t too different from those of the 2014 MY, but hey, this is a facelift after all, not an all-new generation. As for the rear, thank God they’ve dropped those grotesque taillights and adopted clearer units with LED accents. There’s also a redesigned bumper, joined by two trapezoidal exhausts.

A seven-inch central display flanked by the gauges is completely standard, as is the 8.4-inch color touchscreen which lets you control the media system and the Wi-Fi hotspot feature. Info on interior mods is still limited at the moment, but we have a hunch there are new color, leather and trim combos available. Now for the big one - what’s hiding under the hood of this big boy?

Same old same old without the SRT8 punch that is. In its most basic powertrain configuration, the 2015 Chrysler 300 boasts with a Pentastar V6 that displaces 3.6 liters and produces 292 hp and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm). An eight-speed auto is standard, as is rear-wheel drive. If you need all-wheel drive capability, then you’ll have to pay more than $32,390.

As for the 2015 300S, the most powerful variant of the facelifted 300 is equipped with a 5.7 HEMI V8 with 363 hp and 394 lb-ft (533 Nm). The most expensive spec of the revamped Chrysler full-size sedan is the 2015 300C Platinum, which goes for $43,390, while deliveries are slated to start early next year.
