Chevrolet used this year’s SEMA show to shows us the 2015 Tahoe Patrol Police Vehicle and now they’re announcing the production of the law enforcement SUV.
Since the Ford Crown Victoria has been retired, the Chevrolet Tahoe Police Patrol Vehicle now remains the only body-on-frame police car on the market.
Basically, this is a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe that’s received extra police equipment. Power comes from a 5.3-liter V8, which delivers 355 HP and 383 lb-ft (Nm) of torque.
While the engine comes in stock form, the six-speed automatic transmission has been specifically tweaked for police work, but Chevrolet didn’t explain what this means.
The police pursuits were also what they had in mind for the special ABS calibration, but the braking hardware is standard.
The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV can be ordered in rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive forms. The first, together with a non-pursuit rated 4WD model destined for “special service” will be available starting from the first quarter of next year. The second quarter of 2014 will see the pursuit-rated four-wheel drive model become available for order.
As an interesting coincidence, the announcement comes one soon after the idea of a Tesla Model S police car surfaced.
