Both the Tahoe and Suburban full-size SUVs, as well as the 2015 GMC Yukon sister model, were awarded an overall four out of five stars in the NCAP crash-test rating system. The federal agency says that the body-on-frame SUVs still present a high risk of rollover in some situations.
The New Car Assessment Program evaluated the fully redesigned General Motors vehicles and found out these are very safe in terms of occupant protection level in frontal offset and side barrier testing.

Nevertheless, those results didn't translate in the overall score for the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and its twins due to a 22.9 percent risk of rollover. Even though electronic aids such as electronic stability control improve the driving dynamics of tall vehicles such as these, quick maneuvers in bad weather conditions or a collision present the possibility of a rollover.

Still, the current generation Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon are among the safest vehicles in their segment. The Ford Expedition, which is the closest rival of the two, was rated the same four-star overall score, its Achilles' heel being occupant and front impact protection.

An exclusive safety feature on the Tahoe and Yukon is represented by a front-seat center airbag system, which is available only on models fitted with front bucket seats.
