Starting with the big news first, the updated Chevy sedan will be offered with stop/start technology as standard for the basic 2.5-liter EcoTec four-pot engine. According to the manufacturer, the fuel saving addition improves city fuel economy by nearly 5 percent or one mile per gallon.

We remind you that stop/start technology shuts down the engine in heavy traffic conditions or when the car comes to a full stop at a red light, in order to reduce fuel consumption while idling. According to a recent report from Navigant Research, the gizmo is becoming more prevalent with every passing year. 8.8 million vehicles with stop/start were sold in 2013, with worldwide sales expected to rise to 55.4 million in 2022.

Yielding an EPA estimate of 22 mpg city/ 31 mpg highway/ 25 mpg combined, the 2015 Chevrolet Impala offers competitive fuel economy in its segment and a more affordable sticker price compared to six-cylinder rivals.

For the 2015 model year, the Impala sports a starting price of $27,735 for the LS model, while the 3.6-liter V6 LT holds an MSRP of $30,960 and doesn't come with start/stop. In the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu, the fuel saving feature improves economy by 14 percent. The 2.5-liter inline-four EcoTec has an output of 196 horsepower and 186 lb-ft (253 Nm) of torque, while cog swapping duty is handled by a six-speed automatic transmission.
