2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe Gets More Torquey 2-liter Turbo

Compared to the 2014 model year fitted with the 2-liter turbocharged four-pot engine, the 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe boasts with the same 272 horsepower but adds 35 lb-ft of torque for a total of 295 lb-ft (400 Nm). Available late summer 2014, what else do you get on the entry-level $37,995 model?

Well, the extra punch has been achieved through engine calibration and increased boost pressure, translating to a 90 percent torque delivery from 2,100 to 3,000 rpm and the full monty from 3,000 to 4,600 rpm. On the styling front, changes from the outgoing model are minimal, like the modern front grille design and wreathless Cadillac logo.

Also new for the 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe and Sedan are two safety systems: New Lane Change Alert and Lane Keep Assist. Working in tandem with the Side Blind Zone system, the New Lane Change Alert feature warns the driver of rapidly approaching cars, looking approximately 82 feet (25 meters) from the side mirrors. If the sensors identify a fast approaching vehicle, a flashing light appears in the side mirror, depending on which turn signal has been activated.

Lane Keep Assist is designed to operate above 37 mph (60 km/h) and uses a forward-facing camera that detects if the vehicle strays off the lane without the driver's input. When that happens, the safety feature engages the ZF Lenksysteme electric power steering to give a momentary nudge and prevent crossing the lane marking, aligning the 2015 Cadillac ATS in its lane. Both systems are bundled with the Driver Assist Package, while Lane Change Alert is included in the Driver Awareness Package available on Luxury, Performance and Premium Collection models.

Available either with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, the 2-liter turbocharged mill is joined in the range by a 3.6-liter V6 powerplant that comes only with the Hydra-Matic 6L45 tap-shift control auto. On the inside, customers are offered a few new cabin combinations, as well as OnStar 4G LTE internet connectivity with built-in Wi-Fi hotspot and a handy head-up display, among others.
