Expected to offer the best fuel economy in the entire C-Class W205 lineup, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz C-Class Plug-in Hybrid was recently confirmed to be unveiled later this year, with out best bet being at the 2014 edition of the Paris Motor Show.
Just like the Mercedes-Benz S 500 Plug-in Hybrid, the greenest C-Class of the W205 variety will use a turbocharged internal combustion engine paired with a powerful electric motor and larger battery than what your average hybrid holds.
As such, in order to keep the weight/performance ratio, it is expected that the model will sport the C 350 Plug-in Hybrid moniker, while the internal combustion engine will be the M274 DE 20 AL turbocharged four-cylinder with 211 and 350 Nm (258 lb ft) of torque.
The electric motor should bring another 70 hp or so and 200+ Nm (147+ lb ft) of torque into the equation, while the larger li-ion battery should give it an all-electric range of about 50 km (31 miles).
Just like any other PHEV out there, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Plug-in Hybrid will offer both electric-only and hybrid power, therefore cutting the average fuel economy to about half of that of a regular hybrid cars.
No official numbers have been confirmed yet, but a three-liter medium fuel consumption (78.4 mpg) is not entirely out of the question, especially since that's what the much larger and heavier S 500 Plug-in Hybrid is offering.
