In a surprising twist of events, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG W205 might not get 4Matic all-wheel drive if we are to believe what AMG boss Tobias Moers recently told several journalists at the North American International Auto Show.
Despite plenty of rumors suggesting that 4Matic is the way of the future for pretty much every AMG model sans the roadsters, with the all-wheel drive system to be standard in the US and optional almost everywhere else, it seems that the C 63 AMG will remain rear-driven.
Speaking with Motor Authority, Tobias Moers said: “ I think the C-Class is a little bit more fun to drive than the E-Class. The E-Class is more about every day usability. You can have a lot of fun with the car on track with our 4Matic system, but I think the C-Class is more dedicated to fun-to-drive, more sporty, more race track – sometimes a little more sideways. That's the reason it's a real-wheel drive car.”
On the good side, even if it doesn't get all-wheel drive, the new C 63 AMG will apparently get the awesome electronically-controlled LSD from the SLS AMG Black Series. This is probably the reason why we saw a pre-production prototype with smoke coming out of its underbody while being trashed on the Nurburgring Nordschleife last year.
