2015 BMW S1000RR Brings More Power and an Akrapovic Muffler at EICMA

The S1000RR has quickly climbed to the top of the superbike hierarchies and it needed only years to prove that this BMW means business… and is not willing to let go. 2015 brings a heavily updated model year, loaded with new technology in stock trim and with even more sizzling hot options available as ex-works upgrades.

At the same time, the S1000RR received aesthetic tweaks, even though things have remained basically the same. The bike will continue to be almost impossible to mistake for something else, even from afar. The 2015 S1000RR retains the gills on the right side of the fairing and the asymmetrical headlight design. All of the lines and shapes have been revised for a smoother, more fluid attire, but without changing the proven mean vibe of the bike.

A more powerful engine, still under the magic 200 hp mark

The engine of the new S1000RR got 6 extra horsies, but still it doesn’t tap the “north of 200 hp” territory, as the 13,500 rpm dyno shows 199 hp. While this might cause some riders who are a tad too picky to frown, the engine hides an awesome secret.

112 of the peak 113 Nm (83 lb-ft @ 12,000 rpm) of torque are already available for first-class thrills at 9,500 rpm, and this is definitely not a small feat. The Bavarian engineers have also installed a completely new exhaust system in the S1000RR to help the figures grow as you can see from our photos, that exhaust is topped off by an  Akrapovic muffler. The carbon fiber inserts are making a big impact as well.

Impressive standard trim, even better factory options

If you decide to fork out enough money for the base version of the 2015 BMW S1000RR, you’ll be getting Automatic Stability Control (ASC) and 7-stage Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), alongside the all-new electrical system and the new lightweight battery. At the same time, three riding modes are offered as a part of the base package, Rain, Sport and Race, plus a top-spec ABS.

If the above are not enough, you have to know that BMW’s options list comprises more race-derived upgrades for your new S1000RR. We should mention the additional Pro package which comes with two additional riding modes, Slick and User. Needless to say, the User mode is a feature expert riders will really enjoy, as it allows them to tailor and trim a lot of engine parameters to adapt the bike’s capabilities to their personal style and preferences.

The Pro riding mode also comes with a Launch Control feature, a pit lane speed limiter (just like real WSBK and MotoGP bikes). BMW’s top-drawer suspension technology was so far a treat reserved for the track-focused HP4 machine, but starting with the 2015 S1000RR, the Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) can be obtained as a factory option. The Pro package also includes the HP Gear Shift Assist Pro features, for clutchless upshifting and downshifting and enhanced stability during hard engine brakes.

Finally, the 2015 S1000RR also got a more comprehensive instrument cluster which now conveys more data, including race-specific values.
