2015 BMW R1200R Is Expected Soon

BMW is about to unveil the new model year R1200R bike, as it looks like the German manufacturer has filed the needed homologation papers with the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The liquid-cooled roadster does not come as a surprise, as we knew that the R nineT was the last “airhead” bike, and all the new machines would be powered with the new version of the boxer engine.

The CARB file mentions that the power plant of the new R1200R bike has the same emissions as its older brothers, the R1200GS and the R1200RT, so it’s safe to assume that the roadster will be equipped with the very same engine, good for a maximum of 125hp at 7,750 revs and capable to produce just under 125Nm (92 lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 rpm. However, a different gearing can be expected, making the R1200R a nimbler machine for more aggressive riding.

In the absence of anything but some blurry spy photos, it’s hard to tell how much of the Concept Roadster (pictured) lines the bike will retain. One thing seems to be certain, the replacement of the iconic Telelever front suspension with a more traditional dual-legged fork.

The upcoming BMW R1200R is also said to tip the scales at around 227 kg (501 lb) in running order and with a full tank, which is only marginally heavier than the 2013 model (223 kg or 492 lb), but still noticeably lighter than the rest of the machines employing the new LC version of the boxer mill. Though only a wild guess or wishful thinking, a more aggressive, radically-styled R1200R following in the steps of the Concept Roadster would be a really awesome new direction for this cool bike. Either way, it will arrive at Intermot or EICMA pretty soon.
