Say what you want about BMW’s ‘new’ M6 line-up but the guys sure know how to make a commercial. Their latest such attempt is a downright pulse-raising experience with a perfect soundtrack in the back and carefully chosen shots.
Going beyond the packaging, however, what we get to see here is a small upgrade done to the M6 line-up that was basically limited to the headlights. Admittedly, they do look a lot better now, with LED technology now coming standard, but we expected a little more.
And by that we mean in the numbers department. The M6 range (no matter if it’s the Coupe, Convertible or Gran Coupe) is falling behind on horsepower count compared to its rivals. The 560 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque are plenty for any car but when the competition has a lot more, you simply have to ante up your game.
In this regard, the new plants under the bonnets of the X5 M and X6 M models could’ve been used. They have 575 HP and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque which might make a whole lot of a difference.
Leaving all these things aside, the new bits on the M6 range include:
- standard LED headlights
- new M specific double-bar kidney grille
- M gills with side indicators
- new rear diffuser
We can’t really tell them apart if the headlights are taken out of the field of view but who knows... Maybe we’re just not that good with BMWs...
