A couple of prototypes of the new BMW M6 and 6 Series facelift models have been seen prowling around the company’s testing grounds but no official info about what they were bringing was offered. Now that we have the press kit in front of us, we understand why.
BMW took the ‘virtual veils’ off the new M6 today and, believe it or not, the new model is not changed from a technical point of view. Basically, the company decided to let it run out of production with the same engine choices.

We can hardly say that this sort of move surprised us. After all, the M6 was introduced four years ago but the truth of the matter is, it’s starting to lag behind its competition by now. That competition is represented by the RS7 and CLS63 AMG but those apply only for the Gran Coupe guise. Oh, did I forget to mention? All three M6s fall into the same pattern, the Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe continuing with the same S63 plant.

Speaking of which, the 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo mill is making the same 560 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque in its standard guise, with the possibility of going up to 575 HP via the Competition Package.

The performance also remained unchanged. The Coupe will do 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds just like the Gran Coupe while the Convertible will be 0.1 seconds slower due to the added weight of the foldable roof.

Changes were reduced to a minimum

Looking at the car from the front you’ll immediately notice the new headlights. The LED lamps are now standard and have a new, rounder shape that also features fresh corona rings inside. That way, the whole front fascia has a different feel. Nothing else changed on the exterior of the M6. And we do mean it.

Inside, you can now fit your cars with an even wider range of equipment. New features include Jatoba Metallic paintwork, Merino Aragon full-leath trims and stylistic accents in black chrome around the cabin but also on the outside.

Customers can also decide to give their car an even more personal touch with items from the BMW Individual range. This brings into play a choice of 11 BMW Individual paint finishes, five BMW Individual leather trim variants and three BMW Individual interior trim elements.

The new model will most likely be shown in the flesh at the Detroit Motor Show in January, alongside the MINI JCW.
