Here’s a blast from what we can already call the past. While BMW was still preparing the X4 X6 M and F80 M3, supercar spotters and spy photographers were still hiding in the bushes around Nurburgring, trying to get the best shots of the two cars.
Now that we know everything about the new sedan, the video below can be included in the ‘past’ category even though it was posted on Youtube just a couple of hours ago.

In it we can see the M3 going sideways for a while, describing what most people like to call a ‘drift’. Since the car has more than enough power to do that, is light and it was rainy that day, it’s plain obvious how things went sideways.

The X4 X6 M on the other hand, fitted with the xDrive all-wheel-drive system, didn’t have the slightest problem in that corner, going in and out of it with ease and a relaxed look on the driver’s face. Inadvertently, this video goes to show the difference between RWD and AWD Bimmers.

While some people claimed that BMW will eventually follow the trend and offer 4WD M cars (excepting SUVs) in the near future, the current developments show that they’ve been wrong and that the Bavarians will stick to their recipe for at least 7 more years with the new M3 and M4.

The first M model that might get xDrive in the future as an optional add-on, is the upcoming M5 but that’s still pretty far away.
