The last time we saw a BMW 7 Series involved in a drag race it was going up against a Maybach 57 in an all-V12 confrontation that was all about having fun than actually proving a point.
This one, however, can be a little bit more educational. That's because the two cars involved are actually the same one, except they're separated by the switch to a completely new generation and a facelift on top. In other words, it's our chance to see what five years of evolution have done for the largest, most powerful BMW 7 Series.

The black one is a 2015 760Li, which means it's powered by a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine with 544 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. It also tells us it's rear-wheel-driven and weighs in at 4,641 lbs (2,105 kg). Not exactly drag racing material, but nobody really expected it to be. However, its owner says it's been tuned "a little bit", but he doesn't sound too convinced about it.

The milky-gray one (Dravit Gray from BMW Individual) is a 2020 M760Li that's only a few weeks old. That means its larger 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12 engine isn't going to be completely settled, but with its 585 hp and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque, as well as an all-wheel-drive system, it shouldn't really matter.

Now, let's talk a little about that tuning the owner of the two cars mentioned when speaking about the F02. For some reason, after the first race, he decides to remove the Speed Buster and give it another go, except this time, the two limousines went for a rolling race. Even though the older model didn't win, it was very, very close - much closer than in the previous standing race.

Kirill, the owner, mistakenly presumes it was the Speed Buster holding the car back and that by removing it, the 760Li's performances were improved. What we think happened was that the rolling start canceled the BMW M760Li's torque and AWD advantage, while the 250-odd fewer pounds (115 kg) actually worked in its favor.

Either that or the whole thing was staged just to make the video a little bit more interesting. Speaking of which, we hope they didn't really litter the countryside by leaving the chip in the grass. Not that we'd have the courage to say anything about it - have you seen the intro?
