This year the 4 Series Gran Coupe will reach the US shores, hoping to further boost BMW’s sales on the North American continent. The new car comes just months after the first ever 4 Series Coupe was launched and the market is still confused.
That’s because after the company decided to create a whole new model by taking two doors off the 3 Series they also though it would be a good idea to put them back and make another new model in the shape of the 4 Series Gran Coupe, leaving customers wondering what’s the difference from the regular sedan.

Ask any PR person from Bavaria and the answers will most likely be similar: more gracious design, 4-door coupe style, more elegance and an upbeat feeling. Ask us and we’ll tell you that it was all done to counter the Audi A5 Sportback.

Now, the pricing might also be an issue, as the new 4er is more expensive than its 3 Series brother. Prices in the US start at $41,225 for the entry-level 428i model but we all know that you can’t simply go out and buy a BMW without a few options. Or can you?

The standard features included are plentiful and, if you don’t necessarily need a button for every possible function you can probably do with just one of the 7 packages offered, including the Cold Weather package ($950), Driver Assistance/Assistance Plus package ($950/$1900), Dynamic Handling Package ($1,000), Lighting Package ($1,900), Premium Package ($2,200) and Technology Package($3,150).

Standard features on all models include auto start/stop function, multifunction sport steering wheel, sport automatic transmission with paddle shifters, power tailgate, moonroof, auto-dimming rearview mirrors, power front seats with memory function, fog lights, xenon headlights, dynamic cruise control, hi-fi sound system and light alloy wheels amongst many others.

Basically you get everything you could possibly want, except leather and a couple of other ‘luxuries’ that aren’t an absolute must.

Three trim lines are available from the get go, Sport Line, M Sport Line and Luxury Line. The former costs $2,100 and comes with a complete exterior body kit, 18” alloy wheels, door mirror caps in black, sport seats, high-gloss black trims, Coral Red matte trim finishers, M Sport suspension, Anthracite headliner and Black SensaTec upholstery with red highlights.

The M Sport Line is the most expensive one out there, costing $3,500 for the 428i models and $3,100 for the 435i for which you’ll get the usual exterior design alongside 18” Style441 M wheels with Mixed Performance Tires, sport seats, Estoril Blue matte trim finishers, aluminum hexagon interior trims, M steering wheel, shadowline exterior trim, Anthracite headliner and an increased top speed limiter.

Luxury Line vehicles will cost an additional $1,700 for 428i Gran Coupe models and $1,400 for the 435i and will get you 18” light alloy wheels, Anthracite Wood Trims, highlight trim finishers in pearl gloss chrome and Dakota Black Leather.

A lot of optional features are also available and you can find them all and their adjacent prices in the attached pdf document.
