The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer is definitely a bird all on its own out there at the moment. Sure, it is joined by its smaller brother, the 2 Series Active Tourer but in the end, in terms of seating 7 people, it's a rare bird in the premium segment.
If the 2 Series Active Tourer is being rivaled by the Mercedes-Benz B-Class in size and luxury, the 2 Series Gran Tourer is rather alone in this world. That's a good thing for BMW, especially since we found that the GT is a bit better on several counts than its brother. Get the options right and, if you're a family man/woman, you'll be pleased with what it has to offer.
Even if it is a bit stretched and tall for a traditional BMW, the designers did their best to make sure you don't mistake it for anything else. For example, the headlights feature the usual corona rings we're been getting used to and they look the part too.
The strength of the car comes from the luxury it provides and the way it drives. If the driving sensation is hard to capture in pics the other side of the business is easy to spot. And yes, it does feel premium inside this BMW, as you can see, for example, thanks to the fine-wood trim 'fineline' with inlays and Pearl Chrome highlights.
Our tester was also fitted with the optional Sport seats with lumbar support and electric adjustment, all wrapped up in Dakota leather with perforations and grey highlights and we have to admit we were rather impressed with them. Not just how comfortable they were but also how good they looked.
Therefore, we had to take a detailed pic showing you how attention to detail can be a game changer and influence your buying decision. In the end, we came off from the 2 Series Gran Tourer thinking that you need to go big or go home in terms of front-wheel drive BMWs.
