The facelifted 1 Series is definitely a great improvement over the old model. Literally the face was changed as was the rear end and the engine line-up. Now, the prices should change accordingly, right?
Well, as it turns out, the change is not going to be that big. The new model will start at €22,950 for the entry-level 116i model fitted with a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter engine making 109 HP. This will basically replace the current 114i model in the range that is the cheapest you can get at €21,950.
By comparison, the old 116i used to be €23,250 but it had a 136 HP mill under the bonnet. Those are the prices for the 3-door model however. The 5-door will start at €23,700, exactly €1,000 more once again.
For the increased price you also get more kit, no matter of the version you go for. Even the base 116i now comes with automatic air conditioning, iDrive, BMW Radio Professional, tire pressure monitors and rain sensors. A quick glimpse over the optionals of the pre-facelift model will tell you that the radio and climate control alone added up to over €1,000.
Deliveries of the new cars will begin on March 28 right after the Geneva Motor Show is over, where the new 1 Series is supposed to make its ‘in the metal’ debut.
