Audi's TT is probably the biggest dichotomy between what people actually want and what auto journalists think they do. Even we will admit that it's boring to look at, crammed in the back and not very engaging, and yet this is one of the most successful sportscars ever. About a year ago, the German company announced they had sold no less than 500,000 examples through only two generations.
Now there's third one on the way, and it's been officially confirmed for the Geneva Motor Show. Looking a lot like the Allroad Shooting Brake Concept from Detroit, these sketches officially released today preview the next generation of the cheapest coupe to wear four rings.

The car is of course based on the MQB architecture you see in the A3 models already, but it's smaller and lower even than the 3-door A3. As such, all the engines will be borrowed from that car, going right up to the 300 PS 2.0 TFSI going into the TT S and eventually to a TT RS some time in the next few years.

We're not making this up either, Audi own statement suggesting the TT S is coming soon: "Like all Audi S models, the TTS features four tailpipes." With probably the lightest MQB-based body yet and 300 PS on tap, this car could take the first 100 km/h in a 4.7 second stride.

All the engines will be more powerful and efficient than before, thanks to improvements in thermal management, stop/start and even cylinder deactivation once the 1.4 TFSI with Cylinder on Demand becomes available.

There's no overwhelming visual focus with the design of the new TT. It's almost as if the designers wanted it to be familiar. But, while it's missing flair on the outside, the interior is something special. First shown at the 2014 CES, the car's cabin features no central display. Audi calls this design the "virtual cockpit" – all the information is shared with the driver via the very large 12.3-inch display that works as a instrument cluster as well.

If that's not funky enough for you, than how about little displays in the air vents? Check out the latest sketches of the car and older images of the interior in the gallery below.
