Even though the facelifted Audi A7 was announced back in May, the car wasn’t properly introduced to a live audience until yesterday. The main reason for such a hold-up was probably the lack of a proper, major Motor Show in the meantime but we’re at Paris today showing you the very first photos of the car in the flesh.
For the 2015 model year models, the Ingolstadt giant decided to be subtle with the changes. So subtle, as a matter of fact, that you’d have to squint really hard at the hard shell exterior to get a better grip of what’s been changed.
On the front fascia, new LED technology welcomes you on the fresh models in combination with a new design for the headlights. Two lines split them now from side to side, down the middle. While it might seem like this is just an optional feature at first, you’d be surprised to learn that xenon lamps are no longer available, LEDs becoming standard.
Of course, if you want to stand out from the A7 crowd, you can still get the Matrix LED version which was first unveiled on the A8. With it, you’ll make sure nobody is ever blinded by your headlights while you get perfect visibility all around.
Round the back, the same splitting lines are also incorporated into the taillights, creating a sharper effect. Other small cosmetic touches include the new single frame grille, bumpers and tailpipes integrated into the diffuser.
As is the case with all major manufacturers around Europe, the EU6 emissions standard forced Audi to take a closer look at the drivetrains it offers. With the 2015 model, the Audi A7 now has five V6 and V8 engines in its line-up, two of them TFSI petrols and three diesels.
The entry-level 3-liter TDI ultra diesel offers 218 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, plenty even for a car as big as the five-door coupe. With it, Audi claims the A7 will sip just 4.7 liters of diesel over each 100 kilometers (50 mpg) while emitting 122 grams of CO2 per km.
Going up in the range we have two more V6 diesels, one making 275 HP and one with two turbos making 320 HP, both of them now EU6 compliant.
On the petrol front, you get the 3-liter supercharged engine with a slight boost from 310 HP to 333 HP while the S7 will now have 450 HP instead of 420 coming out of the 4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine under its bonnet.
