2015 Audi RS4 and RS5 Production Has Ended, Report Claims

Do you want to buy the RS4 and RS5? You'd better hurry because Audi has reportedly ended production. That pretty much means the 4.2 FSI is dead... forever.

Dutch magazine Autovisie has learned of this fact from insider sources. Why hasn't Audi made it official? Because they know we'll realize what this means: the all-new A4 is entering pre-production.

The German car company has two separate assembly lines that make A4, and one of them has already been stopped to prepare for the all-new model. Within a few weeks, we could be looking at another four-ringed compact executive cruiser.

The sad news there will be a huge period in which you won't be able to buy any RS4 and RS5 models, probably as much as two years. Road testing hasn't even started, and engineers have to finish a brand new type of engine first.

Rumor has it the 4.2-liter V8 will be replaced by a twin-turbo V6 engine producing as much as 500 hp. That's how much Audi needs to fight on the powerful new Mercedes-AMG C63 S.

Because RS models arrive late in the life cycle, they are only available for a few years. The first RS4 came in 1999 and left in 2001. After that, another one arrived in 2005 and went out of production in 2009. The current 450 PS beast lasted three years.

Right now, the segment is filled with cars that are arguably more interesting than the RS4/5. For example, the BMW M3 has gone back to its roots by using a 6-cylinder engine and a lighter chassis. Mercedes meanwhile has adopted a twin-turbo 4-liter V8, which has a lot more torque than the Audi.

Even the Lexus RC F coupe is worth mentioning. It's not very light or fast, but it's a whole lot more interesting to look at than the aging quattro cars. Mind you, they're not very cheap either, as an RS5 Cabriolet costs €90,000 in Europe, and that doesn't include the options.
