2015 Audi RS Q3 Rendered as a 3-Door: an Evoque Alternative?

Audi's collective design mind is a calculated, practical one. This company will never make a car simply for the sake of looking good – it also has to be more practical or affordable than the other German firms. Just look at the RS4 and RS6, which are only available as wagons. But what if Audi's main rival was Jaguar Land Rover and not Mercedes or BMW? Wouldn't the Q3 then have to battle the Evoque and match its every move?
We ask these questions because a rendering of a 3-door RS Q3 has just landed in our web browsers and it instantly reminded us of the Evoque 3-door. The funny thing is that in becoming less practical and thus less Audi-like, the Q3 suddenly became more beautiful.

There isn't a Range Rover Evoque model that can come within a mile of the performance delivered by the RS Q3. With a re-tuned 2.5-liter turbo making 340 horsepower and a tweaked 7-speed twin-clutch gearbox, this baby RS will hit 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. It also exudes power and performance through its every pore. Massive wheels, gaping intakes and an exhaust the size of a fist have turned this soccer mom's car into a track tool.

The best the Brits can muster is the Evoque Autobiography Dynamic, which puts down 285 horsepower from a 2-liter turbo. That's like comparing a 911 Carrera with an S.

We can't really talk about the Evoque and Q3 without mentioning the fact that Land Rover's model is in a totally different league in terms of design. It's like a concept car with number plates, probably among the best SUV designs ever made. The Audi is OK and it has more engines available, but its design won't move you.

Their Q3 crossover-SUV just received its mid-life facelift, which means it's unlikely anything else will be done to it until 2017 or so, when a replacement is launched. It's too late for a 3-door, but maybe Audi can make one next time.
