We know there will be at least one plug-in hybrid model and much better diesels. Just like on the A7 facelift, the supercharger of the 3.0 TFSI will have a clutch that decouples it to save fuel under light loads. And of course even the VW Touareg has a coasting function now, so it's guaranteed for the second-gen Audi SUV as well.
But most people will buy the Q7 with their hearts, not their heads. Records show that there are 250 million pro football players in 200 countries all over the world and some of them love the current Q7. The next one will look much better though, with a sharper grille, LED headlights. Footballers will love it!
Just like the recently revealed Q3 facelift mode, the Q7 will look radically different with or without the S line body kit. This rendering created by X-Tomi Design shows what it will likely be like in basic form, black plastic cladding covering all those panels that are vulnerable to stone chipping. And just like the allroad quattro, an aluminum scuff plate protruding from the bumper will let you know this SUV can deal with the rough stuff… in a premium German way.
The new Q7 is expected to go on a massive weight watchers diet that will help shed around 363 kg (800 lbs), depending on the model. This will be achieved thanks to a new platform and by carefully cutting the number of heavy-duty mechanical bits. It will be powered by upgraded versions of the familiar six- and eight-cylinder engines. There should also be at least one performance powertrain, either powered by a 4.0 TFSI V8 or the "twin-turbo" V6 3.0-liter TDI working with an electric compressor.
If this is what the new Q7 looks like, we can say for sure that it will be a success. However, we're not so sure that it looks better than the X5 or the Range Rover. Audi still need to step up their game in the looks department.
