2015 Audi A6 Facelift Makes Video Debut in Avant ultra Form

Audi's cosmetically refreshed A6 model has had a whole day to sink in and so it's time to take another look at its design. Not surprisingly, we still can't see that many difference, which is not to say that the Germans have been slacking off. This first video shows what is likely the most important new model in the range, the A6 Avant ultra, efficient and practical, thanks to new engine tech.

So what's different about the 2015 A6? Mainly the headlights and taillights, although the grille and lower bumper valences have also changed a little. Even though ultra models are built for efficiency, two large trapezoidal exhausts can be seen at the back, integrated into the diffuser.

Both sedan and estate models wearing the ultra badge come with 2.0 TDI diesel engines. Two different outputs are available, the more efficient 150 PS base model and the slightly better motivated 190 PS version of the same block. Both come with a light and efficient six-speed manual and there's also an automatic option. This does away with the old lineatronic technology and replaces it with a 7-speed twin-clutch. The same gearbox has also been introduced on the new A7 ultra model, but that car pack a larger 3.0 TDI V6 with 218 PS.

Audi continues to treat the A6 as a lesser model than the A7, even though they share a platform, in the effort to differentiate the two. While the coupe now comes standard with LED headlights, the A6 family will have revised xenon units as standard. The model in our video shows the LED headlights as standard for S line cars.

For the first time ever, the A6 will also be available with an ultra model running on petrol. This is thanks to the 1.8 TFSI turbo engine, which has received a number of changes to fit the A6 platform and power it effectively using 190 PS, 10 more than on an A3 of the same displacement.

“With the new Audi A6, we are writing the next chapter in an excellent success story. It represents innovative technology and Audi's premium claim,” says Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Board Member for Technical Development at Audi. “The Audi A6 sets new standards in many technical fields: the lightweight body containing many aluminum components, the powerful and highly efficient engines, the sporty chassis and the advanced assistance and multimedia systems.”
