For 2015 Audi prepared a mild facelift for the A6 range that seems them changing technical bits for the most part, leaving the design basically unaltered. Starting this autumn, most models will be more efficient or have more power, depending on the case. The world premiere of the car just took place at the Paris Motor Show 2014 and we’re bringing you the very first photos of the event.
As one of the most popular models in production across the world in its plants, the A6 was in dire need of some updates to keep up with the competition in its segment, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the BMW 5 Series. With the EU6 regulations coming up fast, more efficiency was needed.

The new A6 is now available with a completely new engine, the 1.8-liter TFSI petrol making 190 HP, 10 more than on the A3. With it, the mid-size sedan is supposed to return an average fuel consumption of just 5.7 l/100 km (41.3 mpg) while also emitting 133 grams of CO2 per kilometer into the atmosphere.

Diesels are still the pick of the range

On the diesel front, most units are getting revised. The 2.0 TDI ultra model shown in the pictures below will now return 56 mph on average (4.2 l/100 km) thanks to its 150 HP while the other 2-liter TDI, the one with 190 HP will be fitted with glass fiber-reinforced polymer springs to reduce weight.

The 3-liter diesels are shared with the A7 facelift, the least powerful one being rated at 218 HP followed by the pick of the range, the 272 HP one and the top-of the range 320 HP bi-turbo.

In order to celebrate 25 years of diesel technology, a special model will be on sale, featuring the same 3-liter V6 TDI engine but taken up to 326 HP on the regular, capable of putting out 346 HP for short periods thanks to overboost.

As far as transmissions go, the biggest news is that the front-wheel drive models will be fitted with a new dual-clutch gearbox that replaces the old CVT multitronic. For quattro models, no change has been announced.

Performance models have been enhanced as well

The Audi S6 and RS6 Avant are also upgraded as part of this facelift, even though they are still fitted with the same twin-turbo V8 4-liter plants.

For the S6 models (both the sedan and Avant) the engine output was raised from 420 HP to 450 HP, exactly the same as the output of the 4.4-liter V8 plants on their rivals from Bavaria.

That makes the S6 in both guises faster by 0.2 seconds in reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill. The sedan will do the sprint in 4.4 seconds while the Avant in 4.6 seconds. The RS6 Avant remains the same.

Matrix LED headlights introduced on the A6 for the first time

After launching the Matrix LED headlights on the A8, Audi decided to offer the cheaper, smaller A6 the same technology starting this fall. As you can see, the facelift version can now be fitted with such headlights as well as the new MMI infotainment system together with the nVidia Tegra powered navigation system. New trims will also be provided for those wanting it as an optional feature.

Pricing for the new model starts at €38,400 in Germany for the 1.8-liter TFSI model, which is basically eating into A4 territory. The S6 starts at €75,400 while the RS6 will have you paying at least €108,900.
