2015 Audi A1 Brings 3-Cylinder TFSI Engine to UK Market: 97 G/KM

We can't say that the Audi A1 the first model from the company with a 3-cylinder engine, but we're pretty sure it will grab a lot of people's attention. After all, 3-bangers hardly offer a premium soundtrack. But, if MINI does it, why shouldn't the A1?

Available in Britain starting today, the A1 and A1 Sportback 1.0 TFSI are fitted with a brand new mill, originally developed by the Volkswagen Group and shared with the Polo facelift. Despite using fewer cylinders, the engine makes 95 PS of power, which is more than you got with the old 90 PS 1.2 TFSI, which has been replaced.

With only 160 Nm of torque available, the A1 won't win any drag races, but it's not designed to. Its 0 to 62 mph time is, however, a respectable 10.9 seconds regardless of whether it is powering the three-door or five-door Sportback body style. A seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission is also available. The top speed of 190 km/h (118 mph) is also what you'd expect from this type of downsized powertrain.

The battle of the gram

What it lacks in terms of out power, the 1-liter engine makes up for at the pumps, which you will visit quite rarely. The new engine can return up to 67.3 mpg in the A1 when linked to the standard manual gearbox, or 64.2 mpg in combination with the S tronic transmission. CO2 emissions are also quite low at 97 grams per kilometer.

For the base £14,315 price, Audi will only give you a 3-door model with a 5-speed manual. But standard kit does include alloy wheels, remote central locking, air conditioning, electric front windows and mirrors and a six-speaker single CD audio system with auxiliary iPod connection linked to a 6.5-inch retractable display.

Starting from £16,290, you can get the better looking A1 Sport model, which also has 16-inch wheels, sports suspension, sports seats, Bluetooth mobile phone preparation and a Driver’s Information System.
