Tough World SBK debut for team Altare-Bimota, as they are not going to be on the grid at the kick-off Australian round at Phillip Island on 23 February. The reason is simple, and even a bit dumb: they could not manufacture enough bikes to be allowed to race in the series.
The FIM and Dorna require that any manufacturer aiming at a WSBK entry produced a minimal number of motorcycles before being allowed to race. The last time we checked, 500 bikes had to be ready for sale, in order that a manufacturer could be granted permission to race. It looks like Bimota didn't make it.
This means that Alstare-Bimota will not be on the grid at Phillip Island, hoping to speed up production for the next round, Aragon, April 13.
Alstare-Bimota riders Ayrton Badovini and Christian Iddon are definitely not happy with missing the 2014 WSB debut, but I guess they kind of saw it coming. Good luck to all, anyway!
