Taking things one step above the Mk7 GTI, this hot hatch has a little bit of the old and a little bit of the new. Under its bonnet is a new version of the 2.0-liter TSI engine, believed to produce somewhere around 290 hp. That might not sound mind-blowing, but the new Golf has taught us that lightness and more torque makes a car faster.
So what should we be looking for in this video? Well for starters, the suspension seems to be on the firm side of firm. Engineers are pushing the car so hard that tires are screeching under pressure, but you can still hear the engine because they’ve fitted a quad exhaust.
So not only is the new Golf R going to be faster but also better to look at and listen to. It might even end up being slightly cheaper according to some reports.
