2014 Volkswagen Touran rendering
Introduced in 2003, the Volkswagen Touran filled the compact MPV hole in the company's lineup. Based on a stretched Golf 5, the Touran, which was smaller than the Sharan, was redesigned in 2010, when the second-generation was launched.
Now more than three years old, the Touran is getting ready to receive an important facelift for the 2014 model year. We basically know what it looks like from the spyshots we took back in September, but since those are getting a little old we figured a new rendering wouldn't hurt.

Details about the upcoming compact MPV are limited, but we do know it will be underpinned by the Golf 7's MQB platform, which means it will also be lighter. The new Volkswagen Touran will make its public debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

As you probably imagine, the new Touran is based on the same platform as VW's bestseller, the Golf hatchback. In the engine department, the Touran will make use of a 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine, among others, while the diesel fortress is represented by the famous 2.0-liter TDI mill.

Other engines include a 1.2-liter base turbo with 110 horsepower and a 2-liter turbo rated at 180 horsepower, but that's only for the petrol camp. As far as diesels are concerned, VW is offering the 110-horsepower 1.6-liter TDI and work their way up to the 190-horsepower flagship me mentioned just one paragraph higher.

VW officials also claim the new Touran will be 19% more efficient and 62 kilograms lighter (136 lbs) than its predecessor. Despite this, it's longer than before, having been extended by 130 mm (5 inches).

Once it comes to light, we expect the Touran to offer LED headlamps with dynamic beam control function (Dynamic Light Assist), coupled with Mirrorlink capability with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to keep up the pace with what other car brand are offering.
