2014 Volkswagen Golf 7 R Rendered

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the new Golf R will be a very fast car, comfortably going into the 5-and-a-bit second range.

The outgoing mode made the switch from the R32 to the R20 name, meaning it dropped the venerable VR6 in favor of a nice, strong turbo. Despite this, it has more power, but the Golf 7 R will be even more powerful than that, as rumors suggest it will produce 290 horsepower.

There new Golf R has been rendered today by Theophilus Chin, based on some of the details on the Volkswagen Design Vision GTI Concept from the Worthersee. We’re not completely convinced this is the look VW is going for, but we do love those blade-like splitter, skirts and intake accents. This car is the definition of ‘sharp’.

Expect to see the Golf R in production form at this September's Frankfurt Motor Show before it goes on sale across the world early next year.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
