Toyota redesigned the Tundra pickup for the 2014 model year in order to attract some of Ford’s and Chevrolet’s share on the US truck market. Will the Tundra be successful? Hard to tell at this point, but in the meantime Toyota has released the vehicle’s spec sheet for us to have a look at.
Gifted with a larger front fascia that integrates the hood and the grille for a “chiseled and modern industrial image”, and a three-piece design bumper, the Tundra looks bolder than ever. For 2014, the pickup will be available in the three familiar body styles - Regular Cab, Double Cab and CrewMax. While the first two can be ordered with either a 78.7-inch or a 97.6-inch long bed, the CrewMax comes with only a 66.7-inch one.
As far as motivation is concerned, the 2014 Toyota Tundra will go on sale with three engines. There will be a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 HP and 278 lb-ft of torque that returns 20 mpg highway and 16 mpg city when combined with a five-speed automatic, and a 4.6-liter V8 with 310 and 401 lb-ft of torque, that’s good for 19 mpg highway and 15 mpg city in two-wheel drive and 18/14 mpg in four-wheel drive.
Lastly, the range topping 5.7-liter V8 that delivers 381 HP and 401 lb-ft of torque via a six-speed automatic and returns 18 mpg highway and 14 mpg city in 4x2 setup or 17 mpg highway and 13 mpg city in 4x4 setup.
The vehicles standard features list is quite long, with Automatic Limited-Slip Differential, ABS, Brake Assist, traction control, backup camera, navigation, mudguards, power windows, power mirrors, and moonroof already fitted to the trucks.
