It looks like Toyota is again falling in a death-pit of recalls, as the automaker just announced another voluntary recall involving around 20,000 certain Highlander 2014 models. The problem seems to be revolving around the available interior space...
The 2014 Toyota Highlander kicked in with strong sales this year, especially due to the extensive campaign it received during the Big Game and the collaboration between the automaker and The Muppets to put out a series of funny commercials.
Advertised to have “room for everything but boring”, 21,234 Highlander units sold so far seem to make an exception from the slogan, reason for which they will need to see a service pretty quick. The models affected, especially the basic LE trim level, seem to come with reduced usable storage capacity because the automaker forgot to delete a hidden compartment which previously was used to store “boring” in the previous model on which is based. Not only the storage space gets affected by the issue, as the third row passengers may also feel the urge to bash their heads against second row seats during long trips in the Highlander LE. Some reported this issue also manifesting on the LE Plus trim level.
No deaths or injuries have been reported so far related to the problem. Owners will be noticed via first class mail to take their Highlanders to the nearest dealerships, where highly specialized technicians will make sure the issue will be solved.
